Summer School/Tutorial on Context-Awareness
Context Awareness - from Ideas to Systems:
Sensors, Designs, Applications
(Summer Tutorial, space 7, Culture Lab, Newcastle University, Wednesday, 28 July 2010, funded by the EU through Erasmus/STA)
This Summer Tutorial is targeted at post-graduate students in their first or second year who want to build context-aware systems. Topics covered include how to design and evaluate context-aware systems as well as how to deal with location information and privacy in this context. The Summer Tutorial will combine lectures with a workshop, and will provide a good opportunity to get a quick overview over all stages involved in building context-aware applications. In addition, participants will have a chance to interact with other students in this field and to develop and test ideas for context-aware applications. A limited number of places are still available (participation is free); contact Chris to register.
Workshop on Space, Pace and Place.
I am one of the organisers of the workgroup on space, pace and place in the North-East. This is an interdisciplinary group of people with an interest in space, pace and place. It is open for anyone to join. We organise regular talks related to the theme of the group, and hold workshops that focus on particular aspects of space, pace and place.
Mobile HCI 2009: Tutorial
After the success of the tutorials at last year's mobile HCI, it comes as no surprise that there was another tutorial session this year. The corresponding notes/slides are now online here.
Ubicomp 2009: Video Track
This year, I'm co-chair of the video track at Ubicomp 2009, which promises to be a very interesting event indeed. The submission deadline is June 25, 2009.

Evaluating Ubiquitous Systems with Users: Current Issues and Novel Approaches
I am co-organising a workshop on how to evaluate ubiquitous systems with users at the European Conference on Ambient Intelligence in Darmstadt. The deadline for submitting position papers is August 20; for more information, please refer to the workshop web page.
AI in mobile systems workshop series (AIMS).
The workshop on AI in mobile systems covers topics such as inferring location from sensor data, distributed reasoning in ubiquitous environments and resource-adaptation. I have been co-organising it for some years at different conferences.
Multi-User and Ubiquitous User Interfaces (MU3I).
In the last three years, MU3I has been held in conjunction with the conference on Intelligent User Interfaces (IUI). Talks, papers and more information are available on the workshop web site.
AISB'2007.
The yearly convention of the (British) Society for the Study of Artificial Intelligence and the Simulation of Behaviour (AISB) was held in Newcastle next year. The official web site is still available here. (I was co-chairing this event with Patrick Olivier.)
